A quick history…
A claim was staked to establish Tekamah as a town in October 1854. On March 14, 1855, Tekamah became an incorporated city by an act of the first territorial legislature of Nebraska. Much of the early history of Tekamah is associated with the foundation of Burt County. Tekamah was alone in Burt County for a long period of time. In turn, the surrounding areas rotated around it.
Tekamah’s City office is located at 1315 K Street, Tekamah, Nebraska 68061. It houses the office of the city clerk. Office hours are Monday-Friday 7:30-4.
The city is governed by a mayor and a four-person city council. Council members are nominated and voted upon by ward with 13th Street the dividing line between the two wards.
The city council meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
